A Gift of Gratitude
Passing it Forward
The experiences I had
at Los Altos High School, both good and bad, were valuable in my
continuing to learn and become the person I am today. After
these fifty years, I feel a deep and abiding GRATITUDE to the teachers
who taught me and to the classmates with whom I interacted.
When
my daughter went to Los Altos High School, I volunteered in some of her
classes. Now I live far away, and there is no longer anything I
can do directly to "pass it forward" to the school and to today's
students.
Thus,
on the occasion of the 50th Reunion of our graduation class, I plan to
give a monetary gift to the school. I'm not a wealthy person, so
it will not be a huge amount -- but any amount will allow me to express
my gratitude.
There
are many areas one could choose to specifiy -- the Principal's
Discretionary Fund (scholarships for special events) or the Associated
Student Body Fund, the Library or the Music Program appeal to
me. The atheletic programs would appeal to others.
I
plan to give my own gift when we take the tour of Los Altos High School
on Friday, September 24, 2010. If any of you are moved to give
your own gift to Los Altos High School -- that time or any other time would be
a good time.

I have a desire to do something in return.
To do
thanks. To give thanks. Give things. Give thoughts. Give love. So
gratitude becomes the gift, creating a cycle of giving and receiving,
the endless waterfall. Filling up and spilling over… perhaps not even
to the giver but to someone else, to whoever crosses one’s path. It is
the simple passing on of the gift.
